Where weather=W, debt=d, time since Christmas=T, time since failing our new year’s resolutions=Q, low motivational levels=M and the feeling of a need to take action=Na. ‘D’ is not defined…

This formula is what Chris Arnall, who was a part-time tutor at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, used to determine what is now known as the “most depressing day of the year”.  This year it seems that there is now debate as to when the most depressing day of the year is.  Some say it was Monday January 17th, others say it is Monday January 24th.  Whatever day it was or will be I guess will remain a mystery since according to Ben Goldacre “the fact is that Cliff Arnall’s equations … fail even to make mathematical sense on their own terms.”

But just for fun let’s take this equation apart.  W=Weather, well at least in my part of the world, not so bad as last year so I am good on that front.  D=Debt, that is always around in some form, a car payment, house payment.  T=Time since Christmas, uhm ok?  Q=Failing our new year’s resolutions, that would be why I tend not to make any.  M=low motivational levels, I tend to blame on the cold weather (back to the W in our equation).  And finally N=the feeling of a need to take action.

The feeling of a need to take action…this is the part of the equation I like.  This is the part of the equation that in my opinion gives “Blue Monday” that glimmer of optimism and possibly keeps it from being so BLUE.  To me the need to take action almost always revolves around “cleaning house”.  Now whether that be vacuuming out the car, or digging in the back of my closet and donating the clothes that haven’t seen the light of day in over six months.  However it doesn’t matter which area of my life I start with, this seems to have a domino effect and once I start it branches out into other areas.

Now seeing as we spend a majority of our time, energy and thought on or at work that seems like the logical place to start.  Imagine a work day that is organized, sticky notes not everywhere reminding you of people to call, things to do.  Wouldn’t it be great if there was something, a piece of technology at your fingertips that could help?  Maybe you already have this wonderful tool and do not know its full capacity…how crazy would that be?!

Take a breath, close your eyes and imagine if you had something that:

  • Is a routing & scheduling system, that could easily create & manage project schedules/workorders
  • Allowed you to setup, assign and schedule tasks
  • That automatically updated timecard & billing entries without repetitious data entry
  • AND it maintained a complete history of each task, billing information, budgeted/actual hours and MORE!

In your happy place?  Good, because I am willing to bet you do have this all at the touch of your finger tips.  Schedule Manager in Asset™ can do all these things for you and more.  Take 5 minutes, check it out, you might learn something new.  Just click here!
